Gangaikonda Cholapuram

Introduction

Gangaikonda Cholapuram was once the capital of the Mighty Cholas. This city was built by Rajendra Chola to commentate his conquests of places till the river Ganga.

Though this city served as the capital of Cholas for about two and a half centuries its lost its prominence over a period of time and only the Great Shiva Temple remains as a testimony of the greatness of this city.

Transportation

The National Highway 227 is the major road passing through this place. The nearest airport is at Trichy which is located about 111 km from here.
